Hi all,
I plan on putting some pics of the boat and deck etc asap, to get some opinions on if I should fix it now, taking into account i want to be on the water in april, or wait till sept - oct to fix it after the season.
hears some history
We bought it last year in july and in august the seat broke though the floor which obviously was a big concern. So that week i pulled out the seats and carpet and checked it out, it looked like water had gone into the deck through the seat bolt holes and just rotted the area under the seat, i cut out all the rotten wood just under the seat and put a ply wood patch in and screwed it down. ( i know this was a total bodge job but this was in late august so just needed to last a month for our uk season.
This meant i had a good look at the floor and the soft spots etc. There is quite a bit of soft under the back seat in the center, around the edge of the cental ski locker hole. The front foot wells and forwards are totally solid no probs here at all, i checked from the underside when taking the seat out. And theres quite a bit of reinforcement at the rear near the transom to stuctually compensate for the rott there. (it has a mercury 75 outboard by the way and and fiberglass transom). I'm my opinion its structually ok but not perfect (i'm a design engineer by trade so know my stresses, but not a marine designer). It would be good to get some opinions after i get a chance to post some pics about what i should do especially as the foward section is totally solid?
Due to the ice cold weather here i havn't been able to even consider any fiberglass work untill now onwards.
I did consider cutting a line and replacing all wood from the center section rearwards (glassing it over and glassing it all in etc. ) Can i do this in 2 weekends roughly?
Also as it stand it looks like it was sealed in with no drainage is this how it should be? the rear bung seams to just drain the rear and central section.
Sorry one more question, the rear section behind the seats where the removable fuel tanks are keep etc and water tend to collect is painted in a heavy duty black underseal style paint what is this and should i use it else where because thats all solid too?
Ill get pics on here when i can cheers in advance
the pic of an identical boat but not mine cheers.
