Very easy...Use Merc. 2-4-C teflon grease on splines before putting new prop on. Available at all boating supply stores.

Re: FLO-TORQ II is easy to put together?

great thanks, so i just have to put all the parts together into the prop as per the instructions and tighten it down to what ever torque it calls for and of course the lubricant on the splines, what is the purpose of this method instead of the pressed on method ,is it because the plastic piece will break off before there is any damage to the lower unit, and after running it a while will all the parts come apart when i take the prop off? thanks

The main advantage is that if you do tweak the prop, the hub is user replacable. Rubber hubbed would need to go to the shop. Mfgs like them because one prop can now fit multiple engines that have same case diameters but different splines/shaft diameters.

On a used flo-torq, the plastic hub is usually still in prop. Make sure you are not trying to fit a new one, into the old. Given you have a used prop, probably didn't get the assembly diagram. I couldn't find one quickly on the net, but this pic might help.

Re: FLO-TORQ II is easy to put together?

ok I am having a little problem, the directions say that flo-torq 2 using a bushing or what i think is a thrust washer should tighten to 100 lb.ft .but when i did that the front of the prop where it meets the housing has some wobble in it when i looked at the instructions again looks like there is supposed to be an insert between the thrust bushing and the plastic insert that goes in the prop if any one has the instructions it will be figure b thanks i would like to clear this up before i put it in the water,i can tighten it down real hard and it will stop the wobble but not sure if that is ok thanks

Re: FLO-TORQ II is easy to put together?

<- Thrust washer <- Delron Sleave <- Prop <- Drive Sleave <- Locking Tab <- Nut

Sounds like you had it right.

Check:
- Prop Shaft is not wobling.
- Thrust washer installed with lower step facing aft.
- That the prop does not have the previous Delron sleave pressed in.

When using a new Delron sleave, it will compress into prop. When tight, you should not have any gap between front of prop and gear housing. The front step edge of the prop will be inside the outer edge of he gear housing.

If you try again and it still wobbles, there is a problem. Take a side view pic and post.

Thanks John, just came back from the marina you are right the devlin sleeve has to be pressed into the prop , when reading the directions all it say's is the torque bolt 100 lb ft , the outboard mechanic say;s i should drive the sleeve into the hub so the bevel in the thrust washer fits inside the hub i did not do that will try it later today to see how it works thanks

Drive the sleave into the prop? I have not had to do that with any Black Max prop (5) and a Mich Wheel that had XHS hub (flotorque compatable). Torquing the prop nut provided all the pressing required. The delron sleave should slide into the prop cavity.

Re: FLO-TORQ II is easy to put together?

Sorry John ,thats what i meant by driving the sleeve ,i should have worded it differently he told me to torque it down till the sleeve went in to the prop hub, but the directions said to tighten down to 100 ft. lbs only and apparently that was not enough to drive the sleeve in anyways i torqued it down then loosened it up and the sleeve was in the hub then i put it back on at 100 ft lbs job complete thanks for your help
