Does anyone use one on their boat battery- a "maintainer" type,
if so, do you just leave it on, or do have it on a timer so it just runs a few hours each day?

Re: "Float" battery charger

I have one on each battery all winter long.
They are maintance charges. they turn on and off as needed with no involvement from me. I think they were like 15 or 20 dollars at an auto parts store.

They can be left powered indefinitely. I do however, have mine on a timer. runs for an hour each day.

I use a Battery Tender, but I share it with my motorcycle and boat battery. I put them both in the basement during the winter, and swap the cables between the two batteries every week or two.
With the battery tender type of charger, you can just hook it up and leave it go for as long as you need. It won't cook the battery like a standard trickle charger could.
