Float needle question.

I just got a pair of carb kits for my 1980 55 Johnson. The new float needles have R clips attached to them. The old ones in my carbs, don't.

Do I leave the R clips on the float needles, or take them off? Are the new clips a modification, and do the R clips attach somehow to the metal float arm? The float arm has two holes in. Are these to take the clips?

Thanks in advance
Steve

Re: Float needle question.

Yes, Steve, the spring clips are a modification. The clips make sure the needle comes open when the float drops.

I'll try and explain how they go on.

The small round part of the wire goes around the needle valve. The large loop of the wire just fits over the metal arm of the float. Don't stick it in the holes.

If you have a Service Manual, Clymer or Seloc, they might give a picture in there.

Hope I explained it good enough :D :D

If still unsure...drop us a post.

Re: Float needle question.

Yup, use the clips. They slide onto the side of the float arm. They were added to insure that the needle does not stick in the needle seat. :D

Thanks guys.

My Clymer manual doesn't show the clips, but I'm sure all will become clear when I come to fit them.

Thanks for the quick replies ;o)

Steve
