float needle spring question ????

the other day i posted about the float needle spring well im rebuilding my carb on my 1960 johnson super sea horse 40 well the little spring broke and i cant find a new one but i did find a heavy twist tie like a bread tie i took the plastic covering off and it looks and feels like the spring that came with the carb kit i bent it the shape of the spring . it seems like it has the same strangth of the spring it is the same size in diam. i want to know if this will work or should i keep looking for a new spring wanted to ask before i put it all back togeather ?????

If i were you I would not trust the wire form the bread tie ,because its not made of stainless steel and will probabbly rust...Id suggest original equipment better material...good luck Chris

You're best bet is find the right part. While a bread-tie is metal wire, it's not spring steel. Older auto repair shops, lawn mower repair shops or motor cycle service shops come to mind if you can't find a OMC dealer near by.<br />After things are running right, you can loaf around, knowing , it didn't cost much dough. :D :D
