Last fall when I was getting ready to store my Four Winns 214 deckboat, I was pumping out the boat's eight gallon water tank in preparation for anti-freeze (pink). As I've done in the past, I turned on the water at the sink and went out to my truck to retrieve the pink while the tank was pumping out. The pump is rated to run dry which it did for two minutes or less.
When I poured the pink in the tank and turned on the water, the pump made an unfamiliar fast "hammering" noise and pumped very little, but it did fill the lines.
I got the boat out of storage on Thursday and, as I expected, the pump is operating the same. Besides the noise, the only anomaly I can see is the inlet filter seems to be sucking air from somewhere, but the are no fluid leaks.
After not finding an answer at their website troubleshooting FAQ, I called the pump manufacturer, but they haven't deigned themselves to call back.
Anybody able to venture a guess what the problem might be?
