Ok, I took my 470/Alpha One 78' Wellcraft Air Slot 190 out on the lake this past weekend for a trial run. I found a cracked shift bellow causing a leak that was pretty minor, a bad ground wire to the voltage regulator almost caused a fire before I saw the smoke, and what I think is flooding out. The first two are fixed. I had it on the lake for about 2 hours. When I fired it up and took it out, it ran great for a while. Then I came to a very long idle zone where I idled the engine for probably 20-30 min passing through. After this is where the problems started. It started wanting to die. Once it would die, I could start it and it would fire up but once I put it in gear and put a load on it it would want to die again and I'd have to really rev it to get it to come out of it. Sometimes it wouldn't and it would just backfire through the carb and then die. By the time I got it back to the ramp I had a really fun time getting it on the trailer in a "No Wake" zone, or at least thats what the other boaters were yelling at me...
I just yelled back "boat problems!". Having had an old four wheeler that acted like this, I'm assuming the carb needs rebuilt so I ordered a rebuild kit and float for it. I have also put in new plugs, check the wires (they were good), and need to check the points.
Just wondering if it sounds like it could be anything more serious... It did run very well for the first hour or so when I had it opened up. The temp gauge showed 140-150F the entire time and voltages between 12-14.
