i have a 1985 johnson 20 crcos.i ran into some low water had to tilt engine up so i could use trolling motor.when i put engine back down would not start,had to pull n pull n wait for abt 20 min,same thing happened on the way home also.what could be causing this.i now have a nice blister on my inner fingers... everything has been cleaned and rebuilt.

With the engine tilted, even if the carburetor was flooding, the fuel should run out the throat of the carburetor, NOT into the engine. However, possibly the diaphragm of the fuel pump is slightly cracked and is allowing pressurized fuel to flow past it into the crankcase which would flood the engine.

If using portable fuel tanks, loosen the fuel cap slightly when not in use to eliminate having the tank pressurized.

i am having a hard time with this motor starting after running it for awhile.altn has been helping me out and ive replaced coils ,powerpak,gt another fuel pump rebuilt it,carb has a rebuild kit also.had to sit for almost an hr before it started again out in the bay.and this happens everytime i go to start it.tank is vented always.fuel is running thru lines ok,bulb is ok.tank is new ,new lines.
