Chevy 350 with edelbrock 1409 model flooding as soon as the motor is cranking over. tested fuel pressure after the pump, showed 8-9 psi. It also appeared that right side of the cylinders, 2-4-6-8 seem to have more fuel on the spark plugs and than left side. Crank the engine without the spark plugs, mist coming out of right side four cylinders, none on the left side. request suggstion, thanks.

Re: flooding

First guess would be that the needle valve is not closing. Could be a bad valve, or you may simply need to adjust the float.

Re: flooding

Are you sure its not water from a cracked manifold/leaky elbow or gasket? sounds funny its on one side.
AL

Re: flooding

Rebuilt the carb already with new needle valves and readjust the floats, still the same problem. The original problem that it was running good at above 2000 RPM once bring to idle it flood itself and die. Fixed that problem, notice that the metering rods has slight bend not true straight, but I won't think that would affect during initial cranking ,would it? No the heads are fine, I could see gas mist shooting out of the right four cylinder and none from the left or port. Like to know what is the proper adjust for the floats, certain manual have it as 3/8 and 15/16, 7/16 and 15/16 to 1 in, 5/16 and 23/32 in. I used the second set 7/16 and 15/16. Could the pump be putting out too psi, sound people say it should be less 8 psi.

Re: flooding

It’s a duel plan manifold so it’s very possible that one side would flood.
8 psi of fuel pressure is fine.
Have you fitted the correct adapter plate for that engine, an open plate will cause all sorts of problems.
If you have the correct adapter plate and you have had a go at rebuilding the carb yourself and it’s still flooding than take the carb to a specialist and get it done properly.

Yes it is a dual plane manifold with an open plate adapter. This adapter came off the stock GM manifold and it was running fine. I didn't think this would matter, if it does I'll be very surprise and I'll let you if it the case. I didn't even think of that.

Re: flooding

Just re-read your post and if your fuel pressure is closer to 9 psi than you may need to fit a pressure regulator and pull it back to 6 psi and see if that cleans it up.
