I have a 1984 Achilles, not sure on model, but rated for a 8 hp motor, and has the inflateable seat with mounted oars. The floor is a 4 piece wood set. I use a 1982 6hp Evinrude (starts so easy and runs better than most new OBs). My problem is that when im in back using the tiller, and someone is sitting up front, the floor tries to fold up really bad at the last 2 sections. It pops up from a 180 degree angle to probably 140 degree. Can even see the bend in the side tubes. So here are my questions....
Should i just redo the floor with new H stringers and side joints or should I build a new 2 piece floor? I would like something more solid and less flexible as we plan on using the boat for some longer cross channel trips to the islands in Lake michigan.

or am i just doing something wrong with set up?

Re: floor advice

To start with, is that sib top inflated to 3.5 psi once on water after some munutes rest ? if tubes rock due to less pressure so will floors to some extend, does your wooden floor panels have excesive play when H stringers are assembled ? You will benefit achieving a more ridgid floor if having/placing larger side joiners. Place pics of the inside to check. Being a 28 oldie, must have excesive wooden panels, H stringers & side joiners play.

Re: floor advice

this si for sure some play in the H stringers and side joiners are just plastic and dont go far enough to cover more than 1 joint. Was thinking about maybe just replaceing the H stringers and side joiners (with something aluminum and longer) or just replacing with an air floor. and yes, that is after inflated to 3.2-3.5 psi in all chambers.

Post a pic showing "side joiners dont go far enough to cover more than 1 joint" to have an idea about that.
