As usual spring time and fishin season is closely approachin, so I decided to check out my hatches to why they pulled out completely while opening , , to make a long story short , the floor is now out , soaked like chocoalte cake !!!!! not to mention the floatation .. soaked .... oh and the water ...at least 10 gallons thru out . these last few days Ive learned a lot about my boat now !Thank god the stringers look fine , the 4 bulkheads are solid besides being somewhat of a black colour on the top edge ,Ill let my repair guy decide if they need to be replaced. Im getting excittied about how the boat will perform after removin 300 plus lbs of weight , as my boat has always had a major porpoisin problem , thk god it didnt sink ..as it stands right now the only thing that might be a problem restoring this boat is that the fiberglass extends from the floor up all the way up the side of the hull , at least a foot or more, and it is pulling away from the sides. My question is does it all need to be replaced? or can we tie it into the exsisting fiberglass ?Sorry for the long winded story but oh what a journey for me .thks Leo

Re: floor, floatation had to go ....

anything that's not sticking like you want your finished results to be should be ground down...then grind out another 6 inches, lol. you don't want a weak layer underneath. and, you have to grind out past where things stop so you can glass it in later...about 6". it sounds like from your description, that it needs to go. if the new deck ties into it, make it solid. got pics? do you have an inner wall that pulls off with the cap?

Salty, Thks for ur input...Im thinkin ur right, it needs to go , but how high it pulls up and off Im not sure, to the top edge? maybe.. that bein said then I think that the cap would have to be removed . and start from the top on down. No there is no liner , just the outer shell , cap , and the insides glassed up from the floor to the top edge. sorry no pics yet.... Leo
