I had an old boat that the foam was totally waterlogged and added about 1000 pounds to the boat. I want to add floor floatation to my new project but am afraid of the waterlogging problem. Is there a pourable foam that is truly waterproof and will stay that way through heavy abuse?(saltwater, rain, pounding waves, etc.)

Re: floor foam

A good 2 part foam, 4lb and above is highly resistant to water saturation. The best thing you can do is to make sure that all the stringers have limber holes, which are basically drainage holes at the base of each stringer and placed in several places along each stringer. This way, if any water does make its way in, it will drain to the center bilge over time. Also, do everything you humanly can to seal the floor surface. All bolts must be sealed, try to eliminate any way that water can get under the floor. Water invariably still gets under the floor, but if the stringers are drained, it all should make its way back to the bilge area to be pumped. When not in use, keep the boat covered. Using the boat rarely is what causes saturation, it is being left out in the rain that causes it. Good luck..
