Re: Floor Repair

No problem using it. The hangup is that aluminum weighs 5 dollars per pound, and then it can't generally be cut by the guy at home. You have to use a plasma cutter, shear, or snips. You could get the snips, but it would be a bear to use just that.
Any welding shop will cut the deck, though, so if you have access to a good one, you'll have to worry mostly about the price of the metal.
Something that you're more likely to see, and is probably more stylish, is aluminum diamond, or tread, plate. Same price, and already set up as a "non-skid" surface. I've seen it in a few boats, and if I can find some at a fair price, may eventually put it in my aluminum boat. There are recycling centers for metal, and their prices are usually great, but they won't generally have your 4x8 sheets of anything, and then you may end up with a patchwork deck.

Re: Floor Repair

I own a Marinette and looked and quite a few before I purchased mine they do not have aluminum cockpit floors, which is what I believe he is asking about. I have seen one for sale on E-bay that did have aluminum floor retrofitted into it, it transfers heat and noise so much that the owner had three layers of insulation to quite the noise levels and heat. For an outboard boat it would be great.
