Re: top removal help

Here are some more photos, The top has got to come off and all the foam removed it is water logged. the stringers seam to be cut out for the boards that go from side to side whatever they are called they are rotten also. The floor in the back where the gas tank sits is shot on both sides. There is not enough access to repair properly,so the top has to come off.

The good thing is that I will have a near new boat for 800 buck not a bad deal.

What is the best way to remove the top. Crap I don't know how to disconnect the motor or remove it , I have a hoist but what do I hook it to. It is a 1975 Johnson 115 hp with power tilt.

Please help.

To remove the floor I cut 12" to 16" squares for easy removal, with my skill saw.

Re: top removal help

Just take you time . i have done way too many of the stringer and floor and transom repair and on the stringers just cut the top of the glass off and dig the rotted wood out and replace it makes it easier to do it this way where you have something to hold the new wood in the stringer section and just fill with resin and recap the top

Re: Floor Replacement :top removal help

Part of me wants to just lay ply wood down and glue it to the foam, so I thought I would remove just the center area of foam too see what's what. Lots of water about a 1/2" of water and when you squeeze the foam more comes out. I don't know how much weight this adds but it must be a bunch. I don't really want to remove the top but I want this fixed right.

What is the best and easiest way to get the foam out?
that's were all the water is.

ARTY007 ,thanks for the idea, anything to make it more fun.

A few point to keep in mind when doing his type of work when cutting the floor out I put the blade in the power saw backwards to keep the fibers small.
Wear safety glasses and a long sleeve shirt the last I learned the hard way.

Any Idea's on where to hook on to the motor to lift it off?

Take the cover off your motor and you should see some type of I-bolt. It won't actually be a bolt, but a hole of sort built into the frame (think tow hook).

If you want to remove the cap you'll need to take your rub rail off & all the interior panels. You should see a strip of wood. Remove all the screws and go from there. Lift one end & slip 2x4s between the hull and the cap until you get it separated. Then get a few buddies to lift it off.

I would get as much foam out & grinding done before you remove the cap. Once the cap has been removed you'll need to properly support the hull. If not, then you'll have a hell of time getting cap back on (if at all).

With the foam out it weighed about 2 or 3 hundred pounds from what I researched it will support 60 lbs per cu.ft. when wet not so much and your boat will sink. It is only $95 for 8 cu.ft. of foam that is not bad to save your families lives. Thanks for all you guy's do.
