I recently purchased an 86 Glassport 18' open bow and the floor feels soft by the drivers side seat. The rest of the floor feels fine, but that one spot concerns me. Does anyone have any advice for me as I am contemplating this project and does anyone know of any resources or references I may need to complete this job? This is my first boat and I want to do it the right way. Thanks a lot for any help.

Re: Floor Replacement

First thing, search on some keywords that will get you to discussions here on iboats that are similar to what you're looking to do. I've done nothing with my boat yet, and am not someone who knows very much about it all, but I gotta give credit where it's due, I have learned an enormous amount by reading discussions here.

There are some very very knowledgeable people here (you all know who you are! ) that have posted awesome advice, some with photos and descriptions of the work that they themselves are currently doing or have done. Get into reading some things here and that will help you think of things to research more in depth as you see fit. This site is a great start. Welcome to iboats!

Re: Floor Replacement

hey natzman

WELCOME TO I BOATS

this place is fast becoming boat university..... as one moderator calls it

the search button is a world of info.....

the moderators here are really up on their stuff. some have done many many repairs and restorations....and there advice is allways "gospel"

as far as your situation....i think its worth doing.....

but you should know...boats rot from the inside...that means when you get the floor up you might find wet foam and rotted stringers....then youve got a real project....but not hard ....lots of fun and well worth doing (imho)

if you caught it early enough its just a floor..and an easy job.....
i would suggest you at least take out the affected section and start looking.
from there we can guide you.

cheers
