Re: Floor Rivet

Is it OK for a 3/4" plywood floor ? It's very difficult to find good long grit rivet for 3/4" plywood floor
What are you going to cover your decking with? Carpet, vinyl, or paint?
Are you going to fasten the decking down before or after it's covered?
Do you have the heavy duty (2 hand) rivet setting tool, or the regular one hand tool?
I would skip the stainless steel rivets and use the aluminum with the aluminum mandrel rivets for 2 reasons. #1 is stainless is a royal pain in the butt to drill should you ever have to remove them to make repairs below deck. #2 the aluminum rivets are about half the price as the stainless.
If you have the heavy duty setting tool you can use the 1/4" dia. aluminum dome head, I used both dome head and large flange head on my boat and the large flange aren't as good as I thought they'd be. The flange is weaker than the dome head and bends easily.
If you don't have the heavy duty setting tool you can buy one from Harbor Freight for $20.
I would strongly suggest you fasten your decking down after you put the finish covering on it. This way you don't have to rip up you finish if you ever need to remove your decking to make repairs below deck, just drill out your rivets and remover the decking... then put the decking back after repairs and install new rivets.
This is my resto and you can see how my rivets look.
