I cut an access hole in the floor of my 1971 18' Trisonic tri-hull boat. In doing so, I cut through a 1X3 flat strong-back attached to the floor plywood running directly front to back over the center stringer. The floor has a soft spot now between the new hole and the solid cross piece a few feet forward of the hole.

Is it OK to install a vertical strut between the top of the center stringer and the bottom of the floor strongback? It is located about in the center of the boat (front to back). I would glass it in.

Re: Floor support strut

What would be the down side to bracing down to the center stringer?
