Well my teardown is going at a decent pace and I got the engine and velvet drive out yesterday.
I'm going to finish the tear out of the remaining 1/3 of the floor and have decided on laminating plywood to make my stringers.
The boat has a fiberglass "lip" extending out about 3 1/2 from the edge of the hull. The floor has been replaced before and the PO's work is not a reliable indicator of how anything should be done. (His solution to rotten stringers was to bolt a 2x4 to the outside of the stringers)
It appears that with a straight edge laid across the center stringers that the floor goes under this lip rather than resting on it. If this is correct, cutting the lip back to about 1/2 its current width would make outside stringer installation easier.
Does the floor rest on the outside stringers and under this lip, or does it rest on top of the lip and sit at an angle towards the center of the boat?
Next question. I've read a lot about foam and feel like I would be acting recklessly not to put foam back into the boat. The original foam did not fill the compartments under the floor, but rather tapered away so that there was no foam next to the center stringers and that any water could drain into the bilge. Not sure how it was done, but I would imagine it was sprayed into place from the surface texture.
A PO added some additional foam that may have been a contributor to the rot as it filled this contour and sat against the center stringers (or it could be that the front of the boat has no bulkhead to seal the center stringers to outside stingers compartment off at the front)
Is there a method to pour the expandable foam that will duplicate this type of contour?
Thanks
