Re: Florida Hammerhead

What a flaming idiot! I think we should take Capt Bucky Dennis and tie a couple chum bags on him and drop him into the waters around the Farallon Islands to see what we can catch.

Ok, so stupid idiot Bucky Dennis has himself a 1280-lb trophy fish…now what?!? What was the purpose of killing that big fish…for the publicity of it all? No, I’m not a fan of trophy hunting/fishing. If he eats the thing, not a problem. If the fish was a danger to humans, not a problem. If it’s needed for some kind of science study, not a problem.

The Port Charlotte fishing captain donated the big fish to the Center for Shark Research at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, which plans to have it mounted and displayed. Center director Robert Hueter said researchers prefer that people tag and release large sharks because they help sustain the species.

"But we are grateful that this animal has been donated to science. It will help us understand more about these animals," Hueter said.

How is having an unsolicited by fish dumped on your doorstep going to help you “understand more about these animals”??? How is mounting and displaying the fish going to help anything?!?

As someone that has no problems at all killing any thing or any one that needs to be killed, please help me understand how killing this fish was necessary.

He didn't catch it by himself it took three others. Who gets credit? I believe in catch and release. If you don"t eat it.
Tim

Let's see... pretend you are average Joe Sixpack on vacation who wants to go fishing. You walk onto a dock, you have your choice of three or four boats, one of them Bucky's. All things equal, which boat do you choose? The boat boasting the world's record catch or one of the others?? Ego? Sure. Great marketing tool? What do you think.

Given the option, I bet none of the other charter captains out of Bucky's port would have released the fish either.

Catch it, take your photo and let it go!!

What a waste of a fantastic fish.

It would be a better marketing tool to let people know that the fish was still swimming, and probably weighs a tad more.

I am in 100% total agreement with you KaGee! … we need the federal gov’t more involved with regulating sports fishing!!!
:D (didn’t expect that. did ya?!?) :p :D

Something I learned from a master, by the time a white sea bass reaches the 70-lb mark, 1-million pounds of fish have been invested in getting it there. The medium fish eats the little fish; the big fish eats the medium fish… ONE MILLION pounds of fish were consumed raising a 70-lb white sea bass…”so” said the master, “if you are going to take a white sea bass, you be sure you take it and don’t just injure it so that it swims off and dies somewhere. You will be responsible for wasting 1-million pounds of fish.”

How many pounds of fish do you think it took to get that shark to where it is at?
