Flow rate on Mercruiser Alpha???

How much water should I be pulling through my Alpha outdrive? Gallons per minute that is. Boat overheats at higher RPMs. This leads me to believe blockage rather than fresh water pump. Anyway, I've changed the pump on the motor, put in a new thermostat, put on new risers (actually weren't too bad, but crudded up a bit) and flushed out any debris from manifolds which were in good shape. Will replace manifolds at end of season regardless. Put the hose through the risers and great flow out the bottom of the manifolds, did the same in reverse with great results, good flow there. All rubber hoses free of any debris/blockage. (What does that t-value, two balls attached to springs on the thermostat actually do??) From the engine side, all I can say is that from my perspective, things flow good. Put the hose on every damn rubber tube possible getting good flow and no debris byproducts passing through. I then went to the salt water intake coming to the engine. Should I be getting mega-flow or what? I get water up through, but I'm not sure its enough?? A five gallon bucket would take at least a few minutes to fill.

Hi, Did you replace the Rubber Water Impleller in the lower unit of the outdrive? That's what fixed my overheating problem. Good Luck !
