I just got my boat back from having the head done and now when I start the engine there is an alarm under the dash that goes off almost in time with the engine. I stuck my head under the dash and it is a small about 1" buzzer wired into the boat. According to my gauges I had good oil pressure and my thermostat says the boat was at 175*..

A little back story, I left my boat with some hack mechanic last year that left it out uncovered for a significant amount of time. My radio does not work now, and it did last year. The horn did not work when I got the boat back as well, but worked fine yesterday.

The shop that did the head is not the same people that left it laying out.

The drive oil reservoir was a little low, i filled that to the full line.

I plan on bringing the boat back to the marina tomorrow, just wondering if anyone knows what that buzzer is hooked to, what would set it off and what it should sound like..

3 things cause a steady alarm, low gear lube, low oil pressure, and high temperature. Any one of those alarm switches could be defective.

Don,

It is not a steady alarm but an intermittent sort of beep/chirp. That leads me to believe that maybe the alarm itself is faulty? The oil in the gear lube resevoir as I stated above was lower than the low mark but I did fill it up. The oil did look a bit like a milkshake.. Its probably time to change that.

What I stated is what the alarm should sound like and what the alarm is hooked to. Since you are taking it back for the repair, they will be able to tell you what was wrong when they find the problem.

You REALLY need to get the water leak fixed on your drive. The one causing the milky gear lube.
