Re: flush mount rod holder
I purchased gimble mounts for my scotty electric power packs last season and after one trip had several hairline cracks around the rod holder. The once used pair of original scotty gimbal mounts went to a lucky guy on e bay for $55 and I went with a permanent base mount with an underside back plate which affords much more structural integrity. A 10# weight off any downrigger boom puts a lot of torque on the base and needs to be flawlessly secure. I'm sure I would have the gunnells of my boat busted up by now with the gimbal mount. The gimbal mount is a quick and easy way to mount downriggers to your boat BUT may cause you a few weekends of blood, sweat, and beers to fix the problems it caused while other guys are out on the water.
