Good day all
I have a 1976 850 Merc o/b

I want to know when water should be coming out of the pee hole?

I have put the muffs on and turned on water waited 5 minutes and still no water coming out of pee hole

Started motor still no water ( only let it run for 5 seconds if that and shut off ) scared to cause damage

What to do?

Thanks

turn the water to full and make sure your muffs are positioned well. Water will only come out of the telltail if the engines running. its gonna take longer than 5 seconds for water to pump up to the block and create preasure at the top to come out of the tell tail. If concerned about over heating because suspected faulty pump....put your hand on the exhaust cover as its warming up, if its getting too hot to hold your hand there and still no water is coming out, you may want to take off your lower unit and inspect your water pump.

>One time I accidently wedged the tube guide under the copper tube when replacing the water pump and no water flow almost resulted in burned up engine.

Decided to take the rain barrel and set it up so the engine is inside. I have filled the barrel so that the water line is even with the bottom bolt of the transom motor mount.

I get warm air and a little water lightly spitting out of the exhaust port just below the pee hole.
But no water out of the pee hole what so ever.

The telltales clog pretty easily. If the motor is cooling properly on the muffs, water will come out the grates above the antiventilation plate, and thru the prop.

Pull off wrap cowl and remove telltale hose from block elbow. Elbow should have good waterflow after 15 sec or so.

I took the wrap and the bottom cowl off to get to the elbow which was plugged but the ( appox 10"long )hose attached to it goes no where.

I have looked where it would reach to but there is no fitting close except the oil pressue line that is on the head.

I have looked thru the mannual but I can't find where it should hook up to.
Being there is no water coming out around engine when running could

Well I just don't know.

Help:confused:

There is no oil pressure line on a 2 cycle.

If you clean out elbow, water should flow thru elbow. If not, you have waterpump problems.

Telltale hose runs to lower cowl, starboard side. Stick a wire up telltale fitting to clean it out.

When I pulled the motor off the boat a couple of years ago I thought the same thing. That being the case I just hooked it up again.

I did pull the fitting out and started it, it started to pee like it had been needing to for some time.
Thanks

Any guesses why a oil pressure gauge might be in the boat and hooked up like it was. Even with the better part of a six pack it still made less sence.

How about a waterpump pressure line.

Thats the only conclusion I could come to but I doubt a boat waterpump could produce a high enough pressure to read on a gauge unless it was a 10lbs or less gauge.

I already got the fitting to hook to the hose but I will look around to find a fitting that will T off to two different ends.

Thanks to all.
