Hi All,

I have recently purchased an electric starter and flywheel. The first fly wheel was too high ( I could see up into the stator plate) the second was too low (the ring over lapped the bendix. So the guy I bought it off gave me a manual starter so I could start the boat in the mean while. (This has dragged on for months now). Does anyone know the correct part number for the right flywheel or ring gear. He put the a ring onto my original flywheel which now over laps the bendix. Could that be machined down half an inch or so so that it didn't over lap the bendix. The ring he pressed onto my flywheel is very wide. What would be the effect of halving it in size so that it didn't over lap the starter. I am at the point of asking for my money back. I haven't even had it on the water. I used the starter once but was told the high flywheel was dangerous.

Joe

I dont know wht part number you need, I wouldnt start machining away at the ring, if this guy cant provide you with the correct part then get your money back and walk away.

visit the mastertech site http://www.mastertechmarine.com and mail them with your engine serial and model number and I am pretty sure they will be able to supply you with a part number.

Just recently I needed an exhaust tube for my '73 fastwin over £100 in the uk only £26 from the states including postage mastertech seem really good

Re: Flywheel 1975 40HP

I am tempted to take it all back except he has sweetened the weal with a secondhand pull start (to replace my original broken one and another flywheel. I have speant the money and have a starter and flywheel I can tuse and another fly wheel and manual start. So i figures the ring is only going to be a smaller one when he finds it.so I thought I'd just machine this one down. I just need to get on the water and all will be forgotten.
BTW thet is a good website but I couldn't find the flywheel section
Joe
