Hello,

I've been working on a 72, 18HP Evinrude. Had to replace the coils but the flyer was wouldn't come off without some work, I started using the puller I had a available in my garage, one with the arms and hooks ( I know this is not recommended ). Anyway I broke two small pieces of of flywheel from each side of it. about 2 inches long and 1/4 wide. So I'm wondering if this will cause any issues when running then engine or will it require a new flywheel as not to cause any further damage?

Do you think it would cause damage to run it this way? I'm currently trying to locate a replacement, but it may take a little while.

Yes it will cause damage to the crank and bearings by running out of balance. The 18/20/25 hp flywheel should fit very common not hard to find at all

yes replace it, sounds like you havent gotten the old one off yet too.
Make sure you use grade 8 bolts at least and dont thread them down too far as you will then dig them into the electrics under there. But do make sure you do put them down to near the end of the threads in the flywheel otherwise you will end up stripping the threads.
Also put the nut back on lightly otherwise you will have a heavy dangerous flying saucer when it finally lets go
