Anyway happy to pay for postage or even buy one from someone.

I am also in the uk, and ordered one from the states, delivered for about ?25.
It also doubles as a lifting eye if you ever need to take engine off boat.
The cheapest universal puller i could find that would do the job was ?50. Tried a cheap one and it just broke. The Mercury puller works really easily.
I think i got it off ebay.com

Forgot to add, dont overlook the trigger when diagnosing your fault- mine was checking out fine when cold but was breaking down when hot.
Wish i had ordered both at once, as i replaced stator first, cured for a short while then trigger failed. They were both displaying similar faults- lack of power, and both read in spec when cold and out of spec (sometimes) when hot. Ended up having to pay 2 lots of postage and import duty.
On motors this old, plan on replacing all electrical items for 100% reliability.
Mine runs like a top now!

Hi Nautique

Cheers for the link, it's not that i don't want to spend the cash more the time thing really as it'll prob take over a week to get here.

When i ordered the stator i also had a trigger, plugs and leads ordered too so i'm well prepared! lol. I have another thread open named "replacing the whole electrical system"

You don't live anywhere along the South coast do you so i could borrow your puller for a couple of days?

I live in north london im afraid, but postage was really quick- i ordered it a couple days after i ordered the stator and it got here before the stator. I think the puller took about a week and the stator and trigger both took about 2 or 3 weeks.

Ok, no worries. I guess with the weather being as crap as it is i probably won't get a chance to start work on it for at least a week so i'll get one ordered this morning. Cheers anyway.

Re: Flywheel puller needed! HELP!!!!

Just had a look at your other posts, have you tried to start it with the black/yellow wire at the switchbox disconected? This is the kill circuit which could be activated by faulty tilt switch, kill switch, key ignition, or wiring fault.
Careful- if it does start the only way to stop it is to choke it or replace the black/yellow wire, which will give you a shock if you dont use something insulated like pliers as it grounds out the spark.

It is possible to change the stator without a puller, although its not the recommended method. Take out the 8 bolts holding the flywheel on to the central hub and it will just lift off. But it MUST go back on lined up with the same holes it came off or you will alter the timing. So clearly mark the hub and flywheel first. Also standard locktite is not enough when putting the bolts back in- You need the red stuff which is designed to lock more securely.
Also extreme care must be taken to make sure the mating surfaces are clean and you do up the bolts evenly or the fly wheel could wobble itself loose.

The trigger however needs the puller to get the central hub off as it wont lift over the hub like the stator can.

This is a last resort if you cant wait for the puller.

Re: Flywheel puller needed! HELP!!!!

Ah, cheers mate. I didn't know you could remove it that way. I am a qualified mechanical engineer so i'm pretty sensible at doing stuff.
I might just give that a go, thanks.

Yeah i did try the black and yellow wire thing, that was first point of call. I then used a DVA to check out the stator with the wires removed from the switch box and it confirmed the blue wire circuit to be buggered which i understand controls and provides voltage for low rpm.

Not a pro here mind you but.........make sure you don't have a positive 12v on the kill circuit, as it could ruin your new parts.

Hi Bernie B

I checked out the kill switch circuit in quite detail to start and know there isn't a 12V supply to it, i used a meter to check the system and make sure there was no current there, it's working as it should.
Thanks for the tip though, keep them coming!

Here's a test for the complete system from CDI.
