Just bought a boat with a prestine 1993 Nissan 8HP (8b). This is a manual start long shaft sailboat motor. It didn't have an alternator option so I ordered one along with a manual. I now see they recommend a flywheel puller. I have seen suggestion on loosening the flywheel nut and banging on "it" with a brass hammer. "It" MUST be the flywheel (strike from below) and not the flywheel nut (strike from above) right?
About the alternator. A car alternator must always be connected to a battery when the engine is running or it will get damaged. Must the outboard alternator be connected to a battery everytime the motor is running as well?
Thanks in advance.
