Trying to get the flywheel off of a 1982 2 stroke 30hp tohatsu. First attempt I broke off a #8 hard case bolt so after I dug that out I checked some of the posts here on iboats and discovered that these things can take weeks to come off. So now I have new hardened bolts on it and it is tightened as far as it will go without breaking another bolt. Just wondering if anyone has any tips and was wondering if heat can be applied to help it come off. I read somewhere that heat will destroy the oil seal so I took the propane torch off of it. Wasnt on there more than 5-10 minutes so I hope Im ok if that is the case. thanks in advance

Re: flywheel removal

I generally remove flywheel nut, attach flywheel puller and tighten securely, then tap center bolt that is against shaft end sharply with 2# hammer. Don't go crazy hitting it, just a few firm sharp taps at a time, and then retighten pully bolt. This should pop it loose. JMO, Mike

Re: flywheel removal

Yep,tried that and broke a hard case#8 bolt. Im pretty sure this one is going to be a bear. I just dont want to break anymore bolts off in it. I may not be so lucky in digging it out next time. I appreciate the reply. Would you know if I could get away with putting some heat to it? Is a propane torch hot enough to ruin my oil seal?
