Took flywheel to check spark plug wires and point gap again!! New coils have been rubbed by the flywheel. TO much torque or is it from lining up on boss mounts that appear to be worn down. Should I mount with flanges lined to the bottom of bosses?
thanks

In that case, yes, pull back a few thousands, just enough to clear the flywheel. If the flywheel is dragging on the coils, you'll probably see the armature plate move when you manually rotate the flywheel.

one last thought.....With the flywheel off, check for excess play in the armature plate. Grab armature plate and try gently lifting the outer edge at a couple of places. Perhaps some bearing wear allows the plate to flex, causing the coils to hit. Another member has an easy fix for a loose armature plate retaining ring, do a search.

Re: flywheel rubbing back of coils(fixed),now carb prob

Not sure I made it understood, and if I did sorry for the repost. The flywheel is hitting at the shaft side.. so setting them at boss mount face was to deep.
no lift in plate. Have that licked I believe, now just a bone dry carb that I just rebuilt. plenty of pressure thru the pump and filter but not a drop in the carb that was rebuilt a week ago. Got it on the bench for the morning task...

Gees, If I understand you, you're saying the flywheel is rubbing the coil(s) closest to the crank shaft? Is there any chance of posting a pic of your motor with the flywheel removed? As for the dry carb, recheck the float level and look to see that the needle isn't sticking. Is the wire installed between the float arm and the needle?

Re: flywheel rubbing back of coils

:confused:they were rubbing on the crank side as crazy as it sounds.. Will try to post pic as I have to check them in a.m. again to make sure they clear. On Dial UP so it may be a few days... the mount bosses have wear on the leading boss so when I lined them up that way the keyway shaft of fly wheel was hitting them.. Good thing it didnt start!!!

Yes the wire is on the needle and float arm.. I learned never to blow air into a outlet.. as pplenty of pressure to pump and gas strainer bowl just didnt get past inlet on carb.. newbie mistake and rushing to get it done before Thursday... Boat engines will teach you patience...
thanks again

Well I blew it into the hole that is the outlet for where fuel comes in.. Must have lodged something in it as I resprayed after taking off float bowl thru hose inlet, after a coupla seconds it came thru.. then resprayed again and then blew air from hose inlet... How I fit pics to the criteria for posting here..
Mine are to large and not to pic savvy..
Thanks from a old disabled HT(not that old actually) and no I wont fix your toilet..

Re: flywheel rubbing back of coils-Pic of original Problems

Thanks for the resize.. Here is first timers hint that might good on a carb rebuild faq.. On original floats there is no wire to hold needle to float.. least not mine.. But in johnson kit its attached to needle valve.. And always make sure ya put the float in with the lil tab tail toward the needle valve seat.. Ya might get gas to engine and not take carb off 3 &(*&(*&(& times.. Manual is clymers and didnt go into detail lol.. About to reinstall carb AGAIN!

Attached is my original burned mess with the bottom of a coil burned thru
Thanks Tashadaddy for the resize..
