I have a 1971 Mercury 650 4 cylinder with the wiring going from the stator to the rectifier dry rotted. I also have a 1968 650 4 cylinder that has a stator with good wiring. I checked the part numbers for the flywheel/stator for the year models and they are different. My question is if I use both the stator and flywheel off the 68 model on the 71 model will I be okay? I don't know if the flywheels on these motors contribute to motor balance and don't want to mess thing up. Thanks Mike

I believe Clams has a repair method for the dry rotted wires.

How 'bout it Clams?

It looks like the wires are rotted all the way up to the stator so as far as grafting on new wires I don't know if that would work. I would like to hear the repair procedure so I can see if that would work. Thanks
