I was wondering which radio antenna works best for the money. Was looking for an antenna that can be mounted under the dash out of sight.

All radio signals are line of sight and the signals will not pass thru hills, steel buildings and many other things. A boat in the water is in a hole so getting a signal is even harder. The higher the antenna the better chance of reception. Placing one under tyhe helm just makes things harder

Do you have a marine radio (with antenna) onboard?

You can use the antenna with a splitter that connects to both the VHF and AM/FM radio.

Gee, I use a piece of lamp cord, which I stick into the antenna jack of the FM radio and toss the rest into the side panel. I get many many more stations than my car does, with a vertical antenna. I have never needed an external FM antenna on any boat I have owned.

Remember radio waves pass thru fiberglass very easily. Grounded steel (like a car) is a shield to RF.
