Re: Foam holes?

It sure looks like it to me. If she were mine, I'd mix up some thickened resin and seal em up.

Re: Foam holes?

Welcome to iBoats!!

Well now that's a horse of a different color. You didn't say that in your first post. You just asked what to do with the holes!!!! If the underlying foam in your boat is wet, there is NO method that I know of that can dry it out. It will have to be removed. You can removed specific sections if they are the only ones affected or if it is the entire boat then the entire deck will have to be removed to remove the foam. If you do a search here on the forum for wet foam I'm sure you will find PLENTY of examples of how others have dealt with this problem

Re: Foam holes?

Are these the holes that the factory uses to fill the foam? I pulled up the carpet and there they were! They wern't sealed or anything! What should I do with them?

WOW these are exactly what i found in mine this week...and my foam is wet about half way through..I figure over 18 years and a little water each trip and never really gets a chance to dry out.i am going to do a localized repair .pull the foam..before it gets out of control cause water is not good...actually after looking at the cracks in the resin on the deck form the plywood shrinking etc over the years...it needs a good coat of resin and matt to seal it for another bunch of years....looking like preventive maintenace to me

They WERE'NT!!!!! Just know this IF your foam is completely wet it can add up to 500+ lbs of additonal weight to your boat, and WILL start to ROT any and all of the WOOD that lies below the deck of your boat. I would not put off the investigaton for to long.

Unfortunately, these are are left open far too often....some put the plug back in and glass over it but many don't. Goes back to what I've said many times....the new boat only needs to last the warranty period.

Re: Foam holes?

Maybe I'll take your advise and seal them up for now and save this project for another day.

I would not seal them up until you get the foam out is what I meant sorry, I went and drilled some small holes in various places and stuck wooden dowels into the foam in various places ...it don't take long for the wood to wick it up and let you know if any of the foam is wet in the area.then you can investigate and hope you don't have any rot started...I lucked out......I was just saying that I found the resin under the carpet could use a new coat...so I will do it all at once

Re: Foam holes?

I would open the hole up to about 1 1/2 ". Take some 1 1/2" PVC pipe and cut some "Teeth" into one end and "DRILL" down through the foam with it to take a core sample of the foam. You'll know soon enought how deep the problem goes.

Do what you have to do sswheeler but it don't take much work to figure out where the water is. Good luck

sswheeler...I am in the same vote, I found water in different locations and figured I might as well tear it all out to be safer then sorry then to do localized repair. At least we know what we have when we are done and will have many years of safe boating . What I laugh at is there were at least 17 holes not sealed on the floor and 3 of the compartments had no drainage holes to the bilge. I know I will be putting some drainage holes in mine. good luck
