foam under seats

I have an old 57 Lone Star boat. It has bench seats with hardwood tops. When the tops were removed (they were rotted), the aluminum enclosure underneath was filled with foam blocks. The foam blocks are all intact, they float well. But they seem to be old and a little crumbly. Am I ok putting them back in or do they need replaced and if so where do I get them ???

You can reuse them if they are not water logged..... and do nothing or

I would go to home depot or lowes and buy a piece of pink board. I would trim the crumbly parts off the old foam and use the pink board to replace what you cut off. You can use gorilla glue if you want to or just see if it will stay contained in the aluminum boxes. You should be fine.

so I am assuming this foam is just to help make the boat more buoyant. All the foam is pretty much crumbly, but holds together fine, its just crumbly if you squeeze it hard. The foam that came out wasn't glued, it was placed in loose then covered. So the pink stuff should be as buoyant ? If so that's what I think I'll do......

Yup that is your flotation and you can replace all of it with the pink stuff. In the past I have purchased 2" x 2' x 8' pieces and cut it apart and glued it in layers to make thicker blocks.

I went to lowes tonight and they had blue foam, it was 2 inch thick and 2 foot x8 foot, it cost 18.00 bucks a sheet. It would cost like 175 bucks to do up the boat is this good or is the pink stuff cheaper ????
