Hi, Took the rotton wooden flooring out of my 16' aluminum vhull. Under the flooring was several huge blobs of expanding foam. Was this foam in there as flooring support, or for floatation if the boat flipped over? It was soaking up water so I pulled it all out of there. Should this be put back in? Thanks

Blobs of foam on a metal boat floor. Never. It will help the boat turn upside down. Not good. Does the boat have foam from the factory under the seats, bow or the upper transom area. Check it out and post the areas. Sounds like a jury rig floor job.Right way is to put the plywood piece on the floor and block or shim it up to what you like. Measure the gap every 6" . You can now make curved pieces of wood to support the floor boards. Make the 2 end curves first, you can make curved supports for about every foot easily. You should be able to run electric cords NOT WIRES or anything else under the floor boards with notches cut into the curved supports. A squirt of Silicone Rubber will keep them in place on the floor. Not factory, but serviceable. If you clear the ribs by 2" no sweat

Re: Foam under wooden flooring??

The boat originally came with a wooden floor. It has an aluminum framing under the floor to hold it up. there were about 8 large blobs of foam under the flooring and one blob was partially under the drivers seat. There is also 2 large compartments back by the transom that go lenghwise down the side of the boat. they go from the floor to the upper edge of the boat, and are about 1/3rd the lenght of the boat. They are also filled with foam. I would like to take the foam out of there and make it into storage. Let me know what you think, and if i need to put foam anywhere on the boat. Thanks

Don't remove the foam and make storage the MFG put the foam there for a reason. The reason is to keep you afloat incase of a disaster. Unlike the Titanic our boats don't sink. :D

I think you will want to replace the foam under the floor by check with the MFG to see if they put it there in the first place.
