Hi me again

Look i was wondering if i spray foam that we used in constrution under my floor in the boat, will it do the trick instead of buying the expensive foam for boat??? i was told by someone that works at the marina near my place it is ok to used the construction foam you buy at either HD or Lowes. but reading the threads in here some used it and some saying it is no good, i am going to spray the foam next weekend and before bying foam that i will regret i wanted to know if it ok with that foam.

Re: Foam

IMHO... NO WAY would I ever use that stuff in my boat. I WOULD use the Pink OR Blue Slab Insulation sheets and cut them to fit the area in question. It IS 100% waterproof and will NEVER absorb water. OR use the Pool Noodles from Dollar General.

Re: Foam

Based on my calculations that foam is 13.3 cubic foot for $105
Lowes Blue Slab foam 1" at $15 for a 4x8 ft sheet times 10 sheets would yield 32 cubic feet for $150 dollars, a much better deal IMHO.

What is the buoyancy rating on your sheet stuff?

Re: Foam

Since the product is not specifically designed for floatation the MFG does not offer this rating. However, the density of the material is quite similar to the dock material you have mentioned and I am quite certain that when used in the proper manner and in sufficient quantities and in the appropriate areas of the boat, it will yield enough bouyancy to keep the boat off the bottom and offer a "Floating Island" for the occupants until help can arrive.

Re: Foam

I went with the blue constructions foam 1" thick. Bought it at Lowes... used maybe 4 sheets... Boat is 15.5' with i think 72" beam. This is how I laid down the foam. Just used hot glue to stick them together. Came out great

Re: Foam

Not to sure that 4 sheets of 1" foam will float that boat...Very nice looking project though..

I have used two part, pour in foam on a similar project (18' Olympic)... and no... dont buy it at the local boat store or youll have to sell one of your kids to afford it..
There are places on line that sell it for alot cheaper.. I did mine for well under $100, and its coast guard approved too..
