Fogging an Elec Fuel Inject and 2 others ?

I see where if you own a carburetor model one can fog oil into the cylinders from a spray can of fogging oil in through the butterflys while the motor is running in prep for winter storage.

Is it possible or necessary to fog an EFI model? I would think the inside walls of EFI model cylinders are also washed down with raw gas when you turn the motor off for the season.

Can I pour some Stabil into my tank on my last trip out on the way back to the dock to coat the insides of the fuel ways. Will the outboard still run OK with stabil in the tank if it turns out not to be my last trip.

Lastly, if one owns a 6.5 gal plastic tank if there is still gas in there is it better to fill tank full for the winter so there is little air in there and then add Stabil or empty the gas out.

Actually I guess it would be smarter fill with medium grade octane which my cars take for my last few trips out and pour any remaining gas in my cars tank at the seasons end.

Thx

Re: Fogging an Elec Fuel Inject and 2 others ?

i'm still torn between paying someone to winterize my 05 merc 115 4stroke or just doing it my self..its fuel injected..i saw in a boating supply store the other day a can of regular fogging oil and then a can of fogging oil with a shrater valve (the fitting on car tires..also same on my fuel rail)..i was in a rush but i'd assume u could screw that to the fuel rail and fog it that way...should the main line be disconnected first ..i don't know..also could the can put out to much pressure..damaging the injectors....i think i'm going to do it my self...add sta-bil run it for a while..change motor/lower end oil..grease fittings..i will probly remove spark plugs and shoot some oil in each cylinder via a syringe..then call it winterized...or i could pay someone and keep myself up at night when its 12 degrees out thinking about it...although its a out board as long as its vertical yhe water will come out....right!!!?

Do as you said. Just pull the plugs and put about a spoonful of oil in each hole. Turn it over by hand and you're done with that part. Keep the lower unit vertical and sleep well over the winter.

Ha ha ha . . . I was just thinking of the end of last winter when I pulled the plug on my Ariens snowblower. Poured in an ounce of oil and pulled the crank cord slightly . . . and WHOOSH . . . I was covered from head to foot by the sudden spray of oil shooting back out the hole :D

Lesson learned here. Put the plugs back in before you move the pistons!

I winterize my Merc. 150efi every winter by stabilizing the gas ,running with muffs on,changing lower unit oil, greasing certs with marine grease, tilting up motor and poring 1 oz. of oil in each cly. and turning over by hand.Lube steering and shifter points, touch up lower unit paint if need. I always winterize with a full tank to keep excess moisture from building up.Every two years I rebuild water pump ,fuel pumps and after first start up each spring ,replace the spark plugs and save the old one as backup.Have never had a problem in the spring having done this basic thing on all five boats that I have owned over the last 29 yrs.

Fogging oil is much better than conventional oil for lay-up. Fogging oil is a little stickier and can be sprayed into the cylinders so there is better coverage. DO NOT spray fogging oil into the air intake on a fuel injected engine. Sensors do not like to be oiled. Stabil is obvsiously ok to run in your engine anytime. If it wasn't there would be no reason to add the stuff as you would have to dispose of the fuel. Add stabil, run the engine to get it into the fuel system. Change the oil (4 strokes), run the engine. Change lower unit/outdrive lub, drain the block and manifolds (I/O's and inboards), disconnect or remove the battery(ies) and put the boat to bed. If the boat has an on-board smart charger, plug it in for the lay-up period.
