Hello all,

I winterized my engine yesterday.

I have a 1985 Johnson 150hp V6 - fuel injection removed.

I removed the carb cover and with the boat running I began to spray the fogging oil in. Low Medium Idle as the Can said. The engine began to produce an enormous amount of smoke as expected. And it began to cough and sputter a couple times but while I was trying to suffocate the engine by spraying into all of the carb intakes (3 carbs - 6 intakes) it would always come back and start idling normally. So I lowered the idle to low idle and tried somemore. A couple of times I thought that it might be near stalling but somehow it always kicked back in. I eventually killed the engine with the key while spraying the Fogging Oil in as I was runnning out of a full can of Oil and knew that I did not want to leave it running after I ran out to let the oil work its way out of the system.

I finished up winterizing the engine and said good enough (it was my first time ever).

Should I try again next weekend? Any advice?

Unfortunatly my enigne is not quite this tough normally out on the water!

Thanks.

Todd Lynch :)

how about using two cans at a time. Use one constantly in bottom cyl., and the other alternate between two carbs. The bottom carb rates its own can to keep the bottom ball bearing happy.

Just a thought... :)

I just fogged my engine also. It has 4 barrels so I was fogging a barrel at a time to get 2 oz per cylinder or barrel, whatever was prescribed on the can of omc fogger. I kept the engine running by goosing it when about to die then finally unhooked the fuel connection and fogged till it died. Then shot some in each cylinder after taking out the plugs and turned the flywheel a few revs, in gear to also clear the impeller. The can said just to shut off the engine after getting in the prescribed amount. My first fogging experience so I dont know if I will end up with a gunked up engine in the spring.

You guys are doing just fine . Next spring ,pull the plugs, turn it over a few times, with no one standing near it,clean the plugs you took out.then fire it off at the lake or on the flusher, and watch the smoke.
