Fogging

For the past two winters, when I fog my engine (two different boats) I can never get the motor to stall. I am using the Mercruiser Storage Seal. I used almost an entire can yesteday, and couldn't even get it to hick-up. My current set-up is a 1988 5.7 Mercruiser. Should I worry? I had no trouble what so ever this past season with the old boat. She was a first hit starter, and actually fired the third hit at the beginning of the season, hated to see her go.

Re: Fogging

I used to have the same prob. not being able to stall it.Now I tie a cord on to the throttle to pull the idle down as I am nearing the end of the fogging and give a pull back on it to decrease the idle to neutral. Then I keep a cup of marvel mystery oil on hand to dump in the carb as i am spraying the fogging oil. This will do the trick. It took me a while to perfect this system. Re: Fogging

Thanks. My next choice for product would have been Marvelous Mystery Oil, use it as assembly lube on my two stroke dirt bikes.

I guess I always wonder if there is enough coating on the cylinder walls, even if the motor never stalls.

Re: Fogging

There probably would be but i am a fanatic when it comes to stuff like that.It takes a tiny bit more in effort but i have piece of mind. Most marinas by me use Marvel mystery oil only to do fogging.I like the combo of foging oil and Marvel.Usually in the middle of the winter when i am visiting my boat I usually give a squirt of foging oil into each carb and tap the ignition a few times.Overkill Im sure but it makes me feel better.Charlie

Fanatic about details I understand, it is why I asked. It is nice to get information from someone that is equally anal, oh I mean fanatical.

Or you can spray the whole can and then just close the choke plate with your finger and that will stall it right away!

Re: Fogging

Yes Lou that will stall it but the point is to stall it with protection, thats where the oil comes in .It stalls when everything is covered and combustion is reduced. If you use the choke plate to stall it ,everything wont be coated,Fanatically speaking that is.Charlie
