Saw your reply to Andy6374. I just replaced the stator and rect./reg. on a 50 H.P. because of over charging, hanging on a pontoon. This set up is still charging at 16V at full throttle. It will go down some at idle tho. It does not jump right up there, but slowly while we are cruising does go to 16V. If I turn the running lights on it will come down to where it should be 14V-15V. If I run the lights to keep the charging down, can this still harm the stator?

Re: For Laddies

In most cases over chargeing showing up on a voltmeter is caused by a loose connection, a battery that is not a marine starting battery, a battery that is low capacity or one that is going bad if you replaced a regulater then it is not working properly, but most 50s were equiped with a 9 amp alternater and no regulater only a reetifier if thats the case and it's not boiling the battery dry don't worry about it I can't really awnser the quistion as I don't know which system you have--Bob

Re: For Laddies

I was told the rectifier is also the regulator. The batttery level stays up, and I don't know if its a marine battery or not as the boat is up north.<br />Thanks for the reply, I think I can live with it as is.
