Here it is! I only have to drive about a mile to the shop each day. Needless to say the truck does not get up to temp, worse now that winter is here. Most week days I just drive to and from work. Letting it warm up in the mornings. On the weekends I drive it quite a bit easily getting up to normal temps, at least 100 miles or so. My questions is , Do you think I am building enough moisture in the motor to the point of seeing some sort of damage or premature failure. Or is running it on the weekends enough to displace any moisture build up. I run regular oil and change every 2500 miles faithfully.

Your are right to be concerned with the type of driving that you do! You are also right in changing your oil when you do! You never mentioned what type of vehicle you are driving and how many miles are on it! Carburated or fuel injected! Not near the problem with fuel injected engines!

I would use a 5W-30 in the climate you are in, and probably a HDDO! (Heavy duty deisel oil)! The reason for the HDDO is that they protect better if moisture is present as they normally have a higher TBN Rating, (Corosion fighting aditives)! If you can find it I would reccomend Chevron Delo 400 but it is hard to find the 5W-30 in the normal places!

Hope this helps you out!!

Short drives can be killer on a motor. My Bride had a ?? Ford Probe. Four cyl. Drove WOT from key turn to parking spot. Time to work was half hour or so.

New job. Time to work 10 min. Still WOT.

Reports to me thing running bad. One morning will not start.

----------investigate------------------

green coolant three of four holes. Me,- calmly explain properties of different coefficients of expanding materials, thermal cycling, and cost of head gasket replacement.

--two containers of Bars leak, new coolant and spark plugs later--starting, running well--the Probe--off to the trade in and Bride in a new ride. Plugged her oil pan once with a sheet metal screw, Finnish washer, fawcet washer.
