For those new, welcome aboard! For those that have been around awhile, stick with us.

If you posted something in the "general outboards" section. It may be moved.

We are trying to move as many topics as possible to brand specific areas. If you do not see your post in the general section. Take a look at the section that features your brand of outboard.

Thank you, for your patience.

Re: FOR NEW AND OLD MEMBERS!!

Mod1
I keep sticking my nose in this but I think general outboard discussion's link could be taken out for the moment. new people come in here in a dire need to get their motors going and they're going to click on the first thing that they see. with the link removed you guys could still sort out the old general posts. everyone then would be forced to post new questions in the brand specific areas while you sort things out. hope this helps. I'll try not to bother you again.

Re: FOR NEW AND OLD MEMBERS!!

moderator1

I appreciate that you are trying to steer people in a direction and manage a lot of traffic, but if you force general inquiries into the brand boards you are depriving people of the benefit of a general discussion about topics that have nothing to do with a particular brand.

As an example, why did my post from yesterday about hooking up an aftermaket in line water separater fuel filter get moved to the suzuki section? The filter is universal (actually made by Mercury) and clamps to the hull not the motor. So far as I know, its operation has nothing to do with what motor I own. Now that it is moved I will only get the post read by those who own suzuki/yamahas and those diligent folks who check all the boards.

It it possible to overdo things.

Re: FOR NEW AND OLD MEMBERS!!

Suzukidave,
In order to try to get old posts into the right category we wrote a program that would automatically do it. If you said one of the manufacturer's names in your title or first post it got moved there. This was not perfect but it did do a pretty good job. This was a one-time-only event. The mod's didn't do it. :)

zj, the first-see-first-click situation was probably reduced by moving the general discussion down the list to below the brand name sections.
