Like the title says, my buddy`s big block was acting funny. low compression , slight moisture issue. pulled the head and found the gasket blown between 2 and 4.
#4 intake lifter depressed about a 1/4 inch more than the rest.So new lifters and a head check coming.
What we did find that is worry some was the fact that the cam is recessed about 3/8ths of an inch rearward. the lifters are not riding in the center of the cam lobes.
A few of the lifter bases were rough on the edges but were able to be removed from the block.
Its my first time inside this motor so I have no history on it but have never seen a can ride that far off. The lifter edge appears like it was striking the adjacent lobe with its edge.
If you`ve seen this or know of someone who has, pass it along. Need an answer to look for when I start the dis-assembly.Suspected the can bolts are way loose
and it allowed the can to travel rearward.

Post it on the hotrodder forum and offshore only. Tell them also whether it's a roller or flat tapped setup. Those guys are good on this stuff.
