I have a 1995 Force 120 on a 1802 Trophy, The motor runs great but will not trim out. The motor can be raised and lowered with ease , when the motor is left in the highest postion for sometime there is no weeping. Question ... when the motor is raised from the lowest postion should it start out slow then pickup speed and when it is lowered from the highest position should it decrease in speed when it gets to the lowest position ???

Thanks

Re: Force 120 Trim Problems """""" Where are all of the experts out there """"""

Before I start spending alot of money to replace parts which I might not need .... Does this motor actually have TRIM ????? The manual calls it a trim and tilt but is it ??This unit has a single cylinder which tilts the motor up and down. Does the pump work as both trim, tilt ???? On some of the other units out there they have 2 cylinders.
I Need all the help I can get .....

Re: 1995 Force 120 Trim Problems

Finally, I have come to the conclusion that my tilt /trim has to go .... The problem with the outboard motor not trimming lies within the valve boby of the pump. Has anyone replaced their trim system lately ?? If so,were you able to find replacement parts or a complete upgrade?? The replacement motors sold at iboats are easy to come by but come without valve bodies.

Any Help would be Greatly Appriciated

Re: Force 120 Trim Problems

Hi there... Unfortunately, I have recently had the task of completely rebuilding the tilt/trim on my '95 Force 120... This is what I had to do. First I bought a new drive motor which is not that hard to find. I actually found one on a classifieds that somebody bought but didn't use... But, I've seen them on ebay and there are two manufacturers that I know of that still make them. Sierra and ARCO make the pump and if you would like the part numbers I can get those for you... As for the pump manifold. I found the manifold (NOS) in S. Florida at a Marine Surplus Dealer. It seems that Mercury/Quiksilver does not make this part anymore but for whatever it is worth, the part number is 8116707. I just searched ebay using this part number and found one... Price is around $250 for the manifold. So, I bought the electric motor and manifold and put everything back together. Now, if you choose to rebuild like I have, once you get it back together watch out for air in the system. Make sure to fill the reservoir under the electric motor. I had to keep bleeding air through the fill cap and adding fluid to the system until the hydralic cylinder gained enough fluid to lift/lower the engine. But, once I worked all of the air out and got enough fluid into the system it works just fine. If you need any additional information, give me a shout! Good Luck to you....

Re: Force 120 Trim Problems

Thanks Proline, I've left @mails to most of the marine motor shops in the U.S.A in my effords of finding a pump manifold. You are right the replacement motor is easy to find but the manifold is a different story. Mercury does have a replacement system which includes everything for around $1000.00 or $800.00 for a rebuilt. The problem with my manifold is that the spool has rusted inside the manifold and will not come out.
Hopefully a manifold will come my way .... if not ... iboats still has a couple of 2007 Merc's 115 for sale.
