I recently bought bayliner capri 19ft with force 125hp from year 89. I think that everything is in good condition, it goes 34 MPH top speed but probably it could go better if I repair my trim. In original boat doesn't have tachometer so now I want to install it. I want to buy this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190532672896&fromMakeTrack=true

Does it fit to my outboard? Please I need explanation how to connect the wires from tachometer.

Do you recommend some other tachometer?

Thank you

Its 20 pole so it should work. When I hooked up my tach all I needed to do was connect power, ground, and the tach signal which was the purple wire under the dash not hooked to anything. I'm not sure about your year motor but on my '86 I could also look and the wire terminal block on the motor and the tach signal wire was labled there and you can verify your harness to the dash is connected to it.

Thank you for answer. I saw that on motor block it says tachometer for purple wire so I will check in the dashboard for purple wire, probably it is not connected to anything. Probably I will buy this tachometer on ebay, I was looking for some other digital tachometers but they might not be able to work with 20 pole .

My speedometer is original sqaure bayliner and it doesn't work, I have to check that also is it connected correctly with that sensor on the back of the boat. Lot of wires in that dashboard, don't know what are they all for .

I would like to put some simple temperature gauge also so I could know when the motor has good temperature after cold start or when it overheats. Where is the best place to put a temperature sensor?

There should be a sending unit/sensor for the "overheat" warning light/buzzer on the motor cylinder head. Right by the top or #1 spark plug with an orange wire connected to it. It is a very basic bi-metal type "switch" that closes ( the metal inside expands with the high heat and closes the circuit) when the temperature gets excessive and completes the circuit causing the warning light or buzzer to activate. If you want to install an actual temperature gauge you will need another type of sending unit that is compatible with whatever temp gauge you choose to use. These are normally installed in the top of the cylinder head by the thermostat. Hope this makes sense...

Re: force 125 bayliner capri 1900 cuddy 89. tachometer

Finally faria tachometer arrived and I connected it to motor. I found ground ( black) and positive ( red) on speedometer and connected it on tachometer . I also found white wire under dashboard that was cut off ( I don't know what for it is, also one black wire was standing cut off ). I connected this white wire on signal and tachometer worked great. Then after 30 mins it stopped. Now it is staying on 0 on key contact . Did I do something to malfunction tachometer? Or I need to find some other wire for signal? How can I test tachometer if it functioning ? Thank you
