how can I tell if I have an l-drive or not? are these carbs hard to rebuild? mine is an 86 model (ithink) model#125ix6b or 125lx6b (cant tell if an"I" or an "L")serial#2467. If it's an "L" it would make sense to be an l-drive. just want to be certain. its on a bayliner. the lower carb is pouring gas the top seems to be fine, when I took the bowl off I lifted the float and gas still flowed. not as much but was still coming out. the eng was running fine & I went out 2 days ago, started fine then started flooding out after running for about 5 min and died wouldnt start back plugs r fouled I cleaned them & left them out for over an hr to let the clys dry some. the plugs look different than any I have ever seen there is no tab for the arc to jump to the bottom of the plug is flat. are these type plugs standard for this eng or is this a performance plug or something? cant get it to start back now. I havent had time to really get into it yet I need to check for spark and fix that carb for sure. any advice on how to accomplish checking the fire alone without grounding something out. is there a way to check the coilpaks for fire with a volt meter? if so does anyone know how to explain it? how is an l-drive different from others? thx for the help

An L-drive is not an outboard that hangs off the back of the boat.

It has a 2 stroke outboard powerhead, and the drive unit extends thru the bottom of the boat.

Yes it is a 1986 model.

Model number is 1251x6b, thats 125 (one)x6b

You do not have an L-drive, they were not made until 1989.

Sparkplugs: You should be using NGK 2522 BUHX

You can check for spark by removing one plug at a time, attaching the plug wire to the plug, then holding it 1/2 inch away from the block with an insulated pliers, then crank over the engine.

Or you can buy a cheap spark tester at an auto parts store.

Sounds like you need some carb work, needle valve for sure.

thanks for the info! those are exactly what my plugs look like. I'm doing a last min check here before I start the carbs. any tip there would be helpful.
