Guys, my dad has a 1988 Force 125 that runs good at WOT but loads up at lower throttle settings. The plugs are always wet and the fumes at lower throttle settings are terrible! (raw fuel) He has checked the carbs for debris, float height and any worn, damaged needles, seats or jets. All appears to be ok. There are no visible leaks. Do you have any ideas? He picked this up used a little while ago so we are not sure what the problem could be. Also...you guys that are reading this...does anybody have a schematic for the trim/tilt valve body? Somebody took his apart before he got it and something is not put back in right or missing. Perhaps a spring or check valve in the wrong place. We can't seem to find a schematic for the valve body anywhere! No leaks and the cylinders appear to be in good shape too. Both the trim and tilt cylinders leak down...so it must be in the valve body. Any help would be appreciated guys....thanks!

Re: Force 125 running rich, loading up

Only help I can offer on the tilt problem is to replace the o-rings in the valve assembly. Sorry, I have no diagram.

I would replace the fuel pump diaphram, which can leak internally into the block.

Perform a thorough decarb of the engine: how to decarb

Then rebuild the carbs, then have an experienced mechanic perform a lync and sync of the carbs and linkages.

Switch to FULL synthetic oil, Pennzoil is only $20 a gallon.

Also, check for a strong spark to all sparkplugs at low rpm's.

Buy a manual. Seloc makes a good one and it's available on this site. The only valves in the tilt and trim fit into the sides of the manifold which connects the lines to the pump. The approximately 1" diameter plugs with a hex key fitting are the valves.

Also the hydraulic fluid should be straight SAE 30 non-detergent oil. If thin oil is used, it might leakdown regardess of the valves.

The only mixture screw on the carbs is for low speed mixture. Looking into the throat of the carb the mixture screw is at 12:00.

I copied some diagrams from this somewhere on this Iboat site a while ago that shows what goes where.. I cannot take credit for them, but they are priceless. ...email me at .....
Hogrider@Myway.com with "Force125" in the subject line and I will send them to you as a download. Anyone else want them do the same. Robby

I should add that these 2 diagrams and two pictures show you EXACTLY where the small and large, short and tall, tiny and fat, springs, o-rings, and bolts go. Whoever designed that valve body needs there *** kicked. And to the person who originally posted these diagrams, thank you, where ever you are. Again email and I will send the stuff for you to download. My puter up to snuff running XP and all the bells and whistles, so a virus free download. Robby

Robby, thanks for the valve body information...that is the best! The fuel pump looks good...the diaphram is ok...compression is good...timing is good...plugs are new...carbs are clean as a whistle...but it STILL loads up at lower speeds. What a frustrating problem!!! Any more ideas out there? Thanks guys...

Take a automotive timing light and check each plug wire for spark while idling and slow speed, and no need for in the water. You can do it on muffs, Those year 125's were prone to ignition problems. Bad stators, powerpacks, coils. Don't give up (and if you find bad parts, I have the part #'s for some of the ignition parts...there Merc parts..Robby

Re: Force 125 running rich, loading up

Does anybody know anything about the fuel recovery system on this engine? The manual is showing a two piece system with little reed valves...I only have one piece with little screen covers over holes. I know it sounds corny, but if you ever saw one, you would know what I am talking about here. Maybe this is why it is loading up?

I do not have the faintest idea of any recovery system...simple pump with a daiphram I believe
