Kind of a dumb question i think. the thermostat cover bolts are stuck beyond belief. also kinda painted over. Tried to break bolts loose with large flathead screwdriver to no avail. I know the suckers are going to strip if I keep this up. anything I can do other that lube and keep trying?

Hi scuba Try a impact driver. Use a socket if it also has a hex head. Also bang the top of the bolt a few times witha hammer to try and loosen it up
gud luk

Hey Russ, thanks for the reply. the bolts are flathead panhead screws. don't know if that's standard, but wouldn't surprise me if they weren't even stainless. Can an impact driver be used on flathead screw? don't have one, so I'll need to get one.

Scubaman: Get one of them impact drivers that you hit with a hammer. They work great on these kind of things. And it'll come with standard and phillips head bits.

Scubaman:
I've had mine for probably 30 years. Bought it back in my old dirt bike days. I never thought maybe they don't even make them anymore. I'm pretty sure they do though. I mean they work great for getting stuff loose. Try your local hardware or auto parts store. Tell them you want a impact driver that you hit with a hammer. Someone has got to carry it. Mine has a few different size phillip heads and a few different size standard heads that came with it. Where did the years go.

Scubaman:

Hey they still make a good thing. Sears carries it. So I'm sure everybody else does to then. You can go to www.sears.com and plug in impact driver in the search area and it'll show you what they look lite and they also offer a few different ones. Have fun.
