Force 150 Carbs not opening all the way..

After a run across the lake yesterday I noticed my 17' speedboat with a 89 Force 150 would only hit 43MPH!!! So I checked the carbs this morning and the butterflies are only opening half way when the controls are at full throttle. I can literally push the master rod with my hand and open them up 50% more. Is there an adjustment I can make to take up the slack or do I have worn out parts somewhere? All the linkages seem to be firm and tight on the engine. Not sure if its adding to my problem but the foward controls need to be half way foward before the engine responds.....

I just corrected the same issue on my 125. Check to see that your control cables are adjusted correctly. Making these adjustments allowed my throttle plate to open fully when the controls are set to WOT.

BTW you should have engine response before you reach the midway point on your controls.

I would guess the control adjustment IS your problem. I just went out to my force and noticed that I could do the same, push master rod. Although I can only push about 1/4 inch after wot that my control says is wot. Should this master rod be wide open to the max, or should there be that 1/4 or slightly less of play if you will?

Well if it helps anybody I went out with no cowling today. I hit my wot and then pushed the butterflies open the 1/4 inch or less. I pulled another 100 rpms or so, in my case not a issue.
