Force 150 fuel pump with spring

I have a 1990 force 150 , it has duel fuel pumps , the pumps have springs that rest against the diaphragm , my 125 force fuel pump doesn’t have a spring in it , why does the 150 pumps have the spring ?

The 125 is probably older than the 150.
The older pumps didn't have the spring.
They added them around the last of 89 to early 90.

I never saw any difference?
I had twin 88/85's one had the spring the other didn't??????
