Went fishing 2 weeks ago and tried again but the motor would not crank over. Changed the starter, removed the plugs still would not crank. Plugs had "goo" on them. Sprayed the inside of all the cylinders with WD40 and after several tries tries got the engine to finally break loose and turn over. Cleaned and replaced the plugs and it started right up and ran fine. I have been adding a little more 2 stroke oil recently (maybe more than a little more. Maybe too much oil and things got gummed up inside after it sat for 3 weeks? Id that a possibility. I don't see any evidence of water contamination in the cylinders or on the plugs (rust, etc) and what blew out of the cylinders seemed clean (oily but clean) when it finally cranked over. It just seemed to be gummed up and it took the WD40 in the cylinders to free it up. It did smoke a lot when it finally started.

Any ideas what the problem is besides too much oil left in the cylinders after shut down.

Thanks,

Larry

What year is this motor? Is this oil injection or do you mix? You may want to do a decarb. You may also need to replace your fuel lines, rebuild the fuel pump, carb and flush the fuel from the tank and run with some fresh fuel. Run the extarcted fuel in the mower, it will keep the squitos down or hide a Navy Seal invasion force. If the gummy stuff is yellow or orange then it probably is fuel varnish. Add some fuel stabilizer to your fuel each time you fill up the tank.
